Display Energy Certificates

Display Energy Certificates (DEC) also known as Operational Ratings are required for all publicly owned buildings larger than 1000m2 that are regularly visited by members of the public. Such buildings include Libraries, Museums, Schools, Job Centres, Hospitals, etc.

The certificate also comes with an advisory report that provides the property manager with advice on how to reduce the energy consumption of the building.

Property managers affected by this law will need to have annual energy meter readings available and are advised by the Government to start collecting this information now in order to be in a position to obtain a certificate by the deadline date.

The DEC is valid for twelve months from its nominated date and must be renewed each year; the building must have a valid DEC in order to comply with the law. The advisory report is valid for ten years and it is not compulsory to act on the advice contained in it, however, acting on the advice will help to reduce the buildings annual energy consumption.

The benefits we can bring to your business are:

  • Effective planning of assessment and certification to comply with statutory requirements.
  • Ability to advise where quick wins can be made to reduce energy costs.
  • Capability to implement improvement measures.
